On 10th August 2011, by decree of the Minister for Education, Universities and Scientific Research, professor Bignami was nominated as president of the National Institute for Astrophysics (Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica - INAF), and made this statement.

He is a member of "Accademia dei Lincei" and professor at IUSS in Pavia, and also the president of COSPAR, the worldwide committee for space research.

The third issue of the Paolo Farinella Prize The third issue of the Paolo Farinella Prize is devoted to planetary science and specifically for studies on the collisional processes in the Solar System, which was one of the major research interest in Paolo’s career. The award ceremony will be hosted by the European Planetary Science Congress (EPSC) meeting in London, UK (8th to 13th of September 2013)."
