X-ray Astronomy: towards the next 50 years!

International conference, Oct 1st to Oct 5th, 2012, Milan (Italy)

This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of SCO X-1, the first extrasolar X-ray source, and of the first measure of the X-ray background by Giacconi, Gursky, Paolini, and Rossi. For this occasion, the Astronomical Observatory of Brera and the Istituto di Astrofisica Spaziale e Fisica Cosmica of INAF are organizing the conference "X-ray Astronomy: towards the next 50 years!".

The conference will be held at the Museum of Science and Technology, in Milan, where Riccardo Giacconi got his first degree in Physics, from Oct 1st to Oct 5th, 2012.

The meeting aims at providing an overall review of X-ray astronomy today, focusing on the most challenging open problems and stimulating future perspectives.
